DLP Pico Projector

If we talk about Pico Projector, PK 101 is the first one to be discussed in detail. This projector is no nonsense projector that can display images and videos in the contrast ration of 1000:1. It is this contrast ratio that separates it from rest of the Pico Projectors.

When you connect this Pico Projector to DVD player, colors of the video remains vibrant and closely match the source but when we connect this projector with iPhone, it projects better quality colors than what my iPhone actually does. If you are using Pico Projectors you have to keep your expectations lower at the brightness but the color output is simply outstanding in their case. You can connect this projector with laptop and can emphasize the color and the picture qualities deliver by the Pico Projector.

The main aim of Optoma is to make a high quality Pico Projector that proves to be ideal for showing photos and videos from any devices that has got video output. Pico PK-101 Projector has a resolution of 640 x 480 and it uses LED light source that has an estimated life of 20,000 hours. It contains a fully charged battery that can give 70 minutes of display in high-brightness mode. This Pico Projector comes with a USB power adapter, tripod charger, two batteries, USB cable, 2.5-3.5 mm jack able with volume control and one AV cable.

The best feature of Pico Projector is its vibrant color. Projected image seems to get brighter due to the color saturation in photos and videos. This projector is wallet sized and can be paired with any portable device like cell phone. Together the can make a mobile presentation system. This projector can show your slideshow in the same way as shown by Aiptek Pocket Camera T10 using portable media player or mobile phone. PK 101 does not have an audio output so you have to connect some audio source such as speakers in order to make your projector audible. There is no messing up around connection as there is only one video input in Pico Projectors.

There are many companies that are developing and manufacturing Pico Projectors Some of them are LCoS, Laser-Beam-Steering and DLP. Let’s discuss them in brief.

DLP( Digital Light Processing)- Idea behind creating DLP is to use tiny mirrors that direct the light. Every mirror controls amount of light received by each pixel of the target picture. It uses color wheel between light source and the mirror in order to get perfect color. Color wheel and mirror splits the light in primary colors i.e. red, blue, green and each mirror controls light beam so as to deliver perfect picture as output.

LCOS(Liquid Crystal on Silicon): This projector uses small LCD display to control amount of light that each pixel can get. It uses two basic designs to get colors. One is Color-Filter LCOS that uses 3 subpixels and another is Field-Sequential-Color that uses a faster LCD so you can split image into 3 primary colors and can refresh LCD 3 times

Laser Beam Steering: This projector is a bit different as it creates the image one pixel at a time by using different laser beam. Here you start with three basic colors which are combined and guided using mirrors. You can not notice pixel-by-pixel design if you are scanning the image fast enough.

Basically there are 4 types of projectors. First is stand alone projectors that receive the input using cable and you can not view any image unless you use another device to stream video signal. Next is USB Projector that uses USB for data and power. They are the smallest projectors as they do not contain battery. Third is Media Player projector that includes memory card and can play file directly from the memory card. The last one is Embedded Projector that is embedded inside mobile phone, camera, laptop etc.
